11-year-old Mihai has been raised by his mother to believe he is the second coming of Jesus Christ. He’d prefer to be more like his hero Michael Schumacher. But as his birthday approaches, his mother has other ideas.
The English language theatre debut of one of Romania’s most exciting writers, Maria Manolescu’s play is produced by acclaimed new writing company Papercut Theatre.

Maria Manolescu won the DramAcum prize (Romanian award for best new playwright) in 2007, and has had her plays mounted at the National Theatre of Iasi and The Very Small Theatre in Bucharest (directed by Gianina Carbunariu). She is a published novelist, and was part of the Royal Court International Residency in 2007 where she wrote I’m Not Jesus Christ.
The production is part of Wadsworth Arts Fringe Festival 2016, and has been made possible with support from the Romanian Cultural Institute. Translation by Cristina Catalina, originally commissioned by the Royal Court Theatre.
